How to add GIFs to Instagram comments

You can add GIFs when commenting on Instagram posts or Reels.

Launch the Instagram app.
Navigate to the post or reel you want to comment on with a GIF.
Below the post Comment icon Tap it.

Next to the comment input field GIF icon Tap it.
Use the search bar to search for a specific type of GIF. You can find the type of GIF you want by entering emotions such as happy, sad, dancing, or smiling.

Once you find a suitable GIF, tap it to post it as a comment.

Please note that if you want to reply to an Instagram post or reel with a GIF, you cannot add text to the comment.

How to add GIFs to Instagram comment replies

Adding a GIF to an Instagram comment reply is just as easy. However, if you like a comment and want to react to it, use the "Like" option instead of replying with a GIF.

Next to the reply field GIF icon Select one.
Find and select a suitable GIF, then post it as a reply to the comment.

How to remove GIFs from Instagram comments

You might not like a GIF you posted as a comment on Instagram, or you might have accidentally commented with an inappropriate GIF. In either case, you can delete such comments in three easy steps.

Navigate to the Instagram comment containing the GIF you want to delete.
Press and hold the comment.
To delete, Delete icon Tap it.

Please note that there is no way to edit or change a GIF comment after it has been posted. The only option is to delete the comment and post a new one.

Troubleshooting tips for when the GIF option is not showing in the Instagram comments section

If you're having trouble finding the option to add GIFs in the comments section of Instagram, here are some quick solutions that might help.

1. Update Instagram

GIFs were added to Instagram comments in May 2023. Therefore, if you are using an older version, the option may not be visible. The latest Instagram build is available from the Google Play Store or the iPhone App Store.

2. Report the issue to Instagram Support.

If you're running the latest Instagram build, there might be a technical reason why the GIF option isn't showing up in your comments. For example, if the Instagram app keeps crashing when you try to add a GIF, please report the issue to Instagram Support.

To contact Instagram support, go to Profile > Hamburger menu icon > Settings & privacy > Help > Report a problem. Tapping the Report a problem option will create a bug report that includes information about the device and account related to the issue you are experiencing. If you do not want to share this information with Instagram, "Continue without including it" Select an option.
